Information pertaining to our Trout Fishing 101 class that will take place Saturday April 4th 2020 from 8-12 on the Gunpowder River in Parkton Maryland. Because of the great interest in this outing, and as a result the number of cars that will be involved, we will need to park vehicles at the Mt. Carmel Park and Ride that is situated just off of I-83 exit 27 MD 137/ MT Carmel Road. We will be fishing the stream at a point called the Masemore Water Trail which is located just a few miles from the park and ride lot. There is limited parking at the Masemore Water Trail area but not enough spots to accommodate all members that have signed up for the class. If it is possible for any of you to carpool from the Annapolis area to the park and ride or Masemore Water Trail area that would be ideal, however if that is not possible then it would be best to park your vehicle at the park and ride and then throw your gear in to a friends car and ride down to the stream together. For specific directions I suggest getting them from Google Maps and type in directions to Masemore Water trail Gunpowder Falls MD. I would like to start the class around 8:00 AM so please plan to arrive about 7:30 or earlier to allow for parking vehicles, putting on waders and rigging rods. The drive is about an hour from the Annapolis area with kind traffic. Below is a list of suggested gear that is standard trout fishing gear. You will need waders as we will be crossing the stream and wading while fishing. Most of this gear can be purchased from Orvis (there is a store in Arlington, Bethesda and Tysons), Bass Pro or Backwater Angler which is a shop located very near to where we will be fishing however they do not open until 10:00 AM so your gear will need to be purchased prior to the day of the school.

The purpose of this class is of course to introduce club members to an effective approach to trout fishing. Our primary goals are #1 SAFETY and #2 FUN. If you apply the knowledge you gain from this class on future fishing endeavors you will ultimately catch trout. And while it is our hope that everyone catches fish at the class, please don’t be disappointed if you don’t… As we all know that is fishing. However this is the time to digest the information and use it going forward. I understand there is a lot of information here- please let me know of any questions you have. I will send out a follow up email with additional info the week of the outing.
Lastly, on Friday April 10th I will be teaching a trout school at Rose River Farms https://www.roseriverfarm.com
in Madison VA. I have 2 spots available for the school and if anyone is interested please reply and let me know. Cost of the school is $275 but I will discount the school to $250 for club members. Please let me know if you have any questions or check out my website for more info.
Thank you,
Capt. Duber Winters
