05/02/20 – Fly Tying

May 2, 2020 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 2nd for our Virtual Fly Tying Session as its the first Saturday of the month and we are going to get together and tie flies like we always do. Plan to connect in at 10 AM–information for connecting in via the club’s Zoom meeting account and descriptions of the flies we will be tying was  in 4/30/20 email to club members.

Yes, we are going virtual even with our traditional Saturday morning fly tying sessions.  So connect in this coming Saturday morning at 10 AM (May 2nd) via Zoom as our own Joe Bruce leads us in tying even better Woolly Buggers.  This fly pattern is ideal for our virtual setting: its easy to tie, the list of materials are short, their are many variations to the basic pattern, and its truly one of the most effective fly patterns ever that we can all learn how to tie even better.

Remember Luis Santiago’s email to club members asking for their number one fly pattern?  Many of the responses included woolly buggers as the number one or two choice.  I know I have an entire fly box filled with different colors, hook sizes, weighted and unweighted woolly buggers!

And, there is even an entire book devoted to tying woolly buggers and their related kinfolk (over 400 relatives) located in my fly tying library.

Joe will be demonstrating tying the woolly bugger pattern with tips on techniques that create a more durable fly and tips that can be incorporated into tying other flies.  He will cover the variety of colors you can choose for the body, tail and hackle.

Materials list is simple: thread, streamer hook, chenille, marabou, and saddle hackle. That’s it!  Even if you don’t have all these ingredients or won’t be tying, come and join us.  You know you will learn a lot from our resident fly fishing guru.
